Artist Statement
Bea Guttman's passion for art making can be seen through each of her original pieces. Her paintings are abstract and rooted in both geometric and organic forms. The natural world and her surroundings often provide the influence for her literal and introspective work. Bea's pieces are referential, not realistic, and the process used is a key factor in her creations. Each work begins with a visual thought or image. She then uses gestural marks and thin layers of acrylic or oil in its development. At times, multiple layers of paint, graphite, collage, acrylic, wax, ink and even original prints are incorporated in her painting, which give depth and mystery to her piece, and a new reality to her vision. It is in her studio in Benicia, California where the creative energy takes over. Bea hopes that the art she creates will bring both feeling and thought equally into play.
