Ever since the beginning, our societies force efficiency, systems, compliance with cultural rules, laws, and likes to see that every human or thing fits into a certain category where it belongs. As much as this is a result of human behavior, it also goes against our individuality and need for freedom.
This inspires me to paint surrealistically, as it comes natural to include elements of imagination, irony, humor and elements that are out of place. A sense of isolation is often dominant in my pantings. Although the figure usually finds its way into the composition in a recognizable form, it becomes more and more omnipresent in my recent paintings.
